Annekathrin Kohout

Annekathrin Kohout is a freelance writer and cultural scientist. She studied German literature, art history, media theory, philosophy, and photography in Dresden, Karlsruhe, and Leipzig. She has worked at the ZKM | Karlsruhe until 2015 and later served as a research assistant at the Department of German Studies at the University of Siegen from 2016 to 2022, where she completed her doctorate on the nerd as a social figure in May 2021. In addition to her freelance writing, she co-edits the book series Digitale Bildkulturen (Klaus Wagenbach Publishers) and the journal POP. Kultur und Kritik. She is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Global Pop Cultures, AICA (Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art), and the Goethe-Institut. As a non-fiction author, she has written books on internet feminism, nerd culture, and K-Pop, and frequently teaches as a guest professor and lecturer at various colleges and universities.
